It has been only three short months since Alcatraz. Life, as it is wont to do, has moved on. The President had sent his back up to Alcatraz, they arrived just as Logan had stopped the Phoenix, the only way he knew how. Having to leave the bodies of the mutants, soldiers and of Jean Grey behind, he boarded the jet. With not a word to anyone on it. Ororo took them home and knowing that he'd done something she couldn't have imagined having to do, gave him his space.
The school re opened that very month, and although Dr. McCoy has taken back to Washington he tries to be around as much as possible to help. Others have also stepped forward to help with teaching and training. Ororo has been arguing with the government about retrieving Jean's body but they are tight lipped about any of the bodies.
Slowly, things are settling. Dr. McTaggert has been in touch and explained that although she can not go into details as of yet, she has information about the school, and Ororo has left the school to Logan while she goes to the island to see about getting the school back in order financially and legally.
Life is moving on indeed, but not everyone is happy about it. Thanks to Alcatraz there are more protests about mutants, the Morlocks are back underground as are what remains of the Brotherhood. Stirrings, anger, and distrust. The boy, Leech, is safely ensconced at the school, and while the cure is over, it's also coming out with problems.
Some are getting their powers back. Sporadically, and out of control. Other all at once. A few are gaining secondary abilities. Everyone has their hands full. It will never be life as it was, but neither is anyone the same person they were before. Angry protesters are angrier, mutants that have been in hiding are again underground and even more subversive, and the X Men, have grown. New members, with a few old ones returning.
It's been three short months, it has been pain, and change, and growth, and regret.
. . . and it is not over.
