Hogwarts Specific:

Personality: (200 words min)
Kaden is, if anything, a realist. He does not believe in giving words of encouragement or hope, and this will sometimes make him appear cold to others, though he is anything but. He is especially pragmatic when it comes to running his daily life and will not allow questions to remain unanswered. He is very impulsive, and though this would also imply that he is fecklessly rash, everything he does is done with purpose. It is with this same purpose that he approaches social situations, and often views them not as a way to interact with others, but a test of his own abilities. As a child he made a game of changing his manner of speaking with others to see who would react to what and why.
Although Kaden is not a fan of conflict, he will gladly defend what he believes, even if that defense turns into an attack on someone else. He knows what he believes and it is very difficult to change his mind. He has a habit of bringing up conflict when he feels some wrong has been done, whether or not he has been involved and has no qualms about informing people of his opinion on matters.

Kaden was born and raised just as the Dark Lord began his return. The age of 8 saw him thoroughly trained in escaping the house, should Voldemort decide his family fit to be eliminated. This, of course, was not very likely, as Cassius and Madeline Knight were very careful to do nothing to set off the Dark Lord or the Ministry, lest they put their son in danger.
Following the death of the Dark Lord, Kaden’s childhood went rather smoothly: days saw him happily racing about the family’s sizable estates, blissfully ignoring the lessons his mother was intent on getting him through, to ready him for Hogwarts. It quickly became apparent that their child was quite bright, though Madeline worried whether or not he would be able to socialize in the school environment, not having much opportunity in his first 11 years as an only child.
She needn’t have worried. Kaden took to the change in environments brilliantly, quickly making friends in his new home of Ravenclaw. Son of a Gryffindor father, for whom he was given his middle name, and Hufflepuff mother, his parents were at first a bit disappointed that he had not followed in either of their footsteps; but as he excelled, floating through school with some of the highest marks in his class, they were content. After all, he also played Chaser on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. And though he was not made captain (or prefect, for that matter), his love for the game would stay with him for many years yet.
After graduating from Hogwarts with a nice sampling of NEWTs—most notably an Outstanding in Transfiguration—Kaden joined the Applebee Arrows, first as a reserve Chaser, and later began starting. After seven years of this, and a severe injury to his right arm, Kaden retired from Quidditch, unwilling to expose himself to the potential of being disabled permanently. Seeing the reforms being made at Hogwarts, he quickly applied for the Transfiguration teaching position.

His leather shoes made rhythmic clicks as he made his way down the stone hallway. Hogwarts really hadn’t changed at all, he noticed—in fact, when he looked more closely, he thought that even the same cobwebs were still around. Kaden smiled to himself. Filch clearly was not making friends with old age. One would have thought, though, that the school would have been spotless, considering the administrational changes in years past. Unsurprisingly, McGonagall had an awful streak of absolute perfection…in appearance anyway.
It hadn’t been so long ago that he’d been here, too, walking these halls in the black robes he remembered so dearly. All good things must come to an end, however. And life had gone on, nearly killing him in the process. He rubbed his arm absently, massaging the tense muscles. The Healers had told him that it might stay that way all his life. That was definitely all the incentive he needed to get out of Quidditch for good.
The world was such an asshole, sometimes. For example, today he would be getting his first dose of first-year treatment. He wasn’t sure what to expect, but if they were anything like he remembered, there’d be one excessively cheeky one. Here was hoping he wouldn’t have to rip those cheeks off.
Blue was everywhere in his classroom, but that would change as the upper-level students progressed along. Simple color-change was not as simple as it sounded. One had to do more than change an object into another object, and though the curtains were not the most complex things to transfigure, changing the color of the curtains? Well, he’d enjoy watching the sixth-years try.
Transfiguration was all too often a before and after event. Object->change->reverse. That simple, right? Not with colors…oh, they called potions the “subtle” magic, but at least you could see if you were making any progress. You had to change colors from the inside out, and many students who could change a dolphin into a flying squirrel were lost when they couldn’t see the change happening before their eyes.
But that was a lesson for another day and another year. Breathing deeply, Kaden formed the persona of Professor Knight around himself. It began now. He could only hope that he was prepared.
