Basics
Full Name: Theodorik Diederik Harding
Played By: Heinrich Nachtmacher
Birth date: 18 January 1969
Blood: Pure-blood
Physical Description:
Height: 182cm
Weight: 50kg
Hair Colour: Light, wispy brown
Eye Colour: Dark brown
First Impression: The first impression one would receive when meeting Theodorik Harding is that of belonging. Though, Theo is an introvert, it by no means bars him from being welcoming and happy around people, even if he doesn’t share his thoughts. Most people would describe his as eccentric, warm, knowing, understanding, and slightly to the left of Friedrich Engels.
Other Information:
School Attended: Hogwarts
House: Ex-Ravenclaw
Wand: nine and three-quarter inches, stiff, good for runic magic, bracken, and phoenix feather.
Wand Info:
Theodorik Harding’s wand was made by a small Icelandic wand-maker, a professional with runic wands. The wand is quite stiff, indicative of a writer’s tool. The combination of bracken wood, a wood strong in runic magic, and phoenix feather, a core of a powerful nature in defensive magic, create a wand that is quite powerful with the somewhat misunderstood and powerful nature of runic magic. Carved into the wood encasing the phoenix feather, are runes. The wand is specifically designed for very complex magic that needs the use of a physical embodiment such as that of runes, meaning that the use of this wand to write runes is quite easy for the owner. However, with the strength in founding magic of runes, comes the weakness with the quick magic of curses and hexes. A wand of this stature is uncommon with most wizards and witches.
Pet: Burrowing Owl, Chartreux Cat
Personality:
An avid introvert, Theodorik Harding covers his inner personality with eccentricity. Being a professor, eccentricity is understandable, and honestly needed. Though he usually keeps his thoughts and emotion to himself, he is welcoming with new people and an especially good lecturer, trying to engage his audience in the subject. With his understanding of runic magic, comes a deep desire to teach others the depth and importance of the all too often overlooked branch of magic.
Though Theo doesn’t show his emotion to many people, he is more than willing to share his opinions, making him a prime debater and a fun person for discussion. Being opinionated never stopped Theo from looking at all sides of an argument, though he was more than willing to share his view of an issue should the issue come up.
Being a professor of such a detailed subject as Ancient Runes, Theo is always aware of his surroundings and detail of them. He perhaps one of the more observant people in any room; however, he sacrifices his time in search of detail, often ignoring people as he observes his surroundings. Though he is pen with people, Theo is also very alone in thought. For a subject such as Ancient Runes, one must have a deep understanding of theoretical magic. His deep knowledge of magical theory and his need for silence sometimes, will often give people the impression that he is wise. He denies wisdom at anytime, citing his rash behaviour when searching for runes in Norway.

History:
Theodorik Harding was born on 18 January in the private home of the Harding family in Reykjavik, Iceland. For the first eleven years of Theodorik’s life, he lived in his family’s home and attended a muggle school to learn basic mathematics and language skills. After his completion of Primary school, Theodorik was fluent in Icelandic, English, and Norwegian. In the eleven years of primary school, Errol had become acquainted with muggle children, though he was raised in a magical home.
Upon receiving his letter from Hogwarts, after his parents had gone to trouble to get his name down, Theodorik prepared for school, buying his wand in Iceland and visiting Diagon Alley the day before leaving at King’s Cross. When finding the wand that was right for him, Theodorik received a special wand, ingrained with runes in a hard bracken wood. It was not until twenty years later, that he deciphered the runes.
After arriving at Hogwarts, Errol was sorted in Ravenclaw house, where he flourished. For the following two years, Theodorik just seemed the normal student. Upon entering the third year and attending Ancient Runes class, Theodorik became specialised in the old magic. With his studies in the old and theoretical magic, Theodorik became strong in the other more theoretical forms of magic; Divination and Astrology. The next five years passed with few happenings, Theodorik passing his tests with flying colours.
After leaving Hogwarts, Theodorik worked for the Ministry for Magic, deciphering runes that were found in Scandinavia and Germany that were brought back to England. During his free time, Theodorik delved into the more questionable forms of theoretical magic and became a master of the unknown magic, travelling the world in search of written work that would lead him to the unusual magic. The travelling and studying eventually lost Theodorik his job on charges of the use of Dark Magic. This of course infuriated Theodorik, but he could do nothing about it. Instead he left for another, more flexible, job.
This time, Theodorik found a job at which he simply sent merchandise to a shop on Diagon alley. Though the job paid little in the way of money, it paid enough that Theodorik could afford housing and food when he travelled around the world, becoming a full-time runic researcher. His job entailed the engraving of simple runes on small knick-knacks to bring good luck and other such attributes. While doing independent research, Theodorik spent a disproportionate amount of time in Norway looking for ancient runes. By this time, he had devoted his life to theoretical magic of history. After twenty years of wandering about the world, bringing knowledge to himself, Theodorik decided he would settle down enough to get a real job. Theodorik Harding applied to the open job of Ancient runes professor at Hogwarts, his alma mater; hoping his extensive knowledge of the ancient, powerful magic would bring him a sense of viability.
Brief Roleplay Sample:
Golden light filtered in through the dirty windows of the Ancient Runes classroom as Professor Kridik prepared for his upcoming class. He had only just inhabited the classroom, meaning he had little time to clean things as he normally would. In an attempt to make the room feel more like a classroom than a storage room, he had tried to carve runes into the walls of the castle a few hours before; but defensive spells on the walls blew him back. Failing to carve the runes, he relegated himself to making other preparations for the class. He began with the blackboard and ended up with about as much as he had at the beginning. He knew he would have to spend more time on the classroom at some point in the future.
Standing behind the desk, Professor Harding waited for his students to arrive. It was an almost agonising wait, but Theodorik knew he would have to be patient. After about four minutes, students began entering the room and sitting in the desks that sat circularly around the front of the room, making it easier for students to see. After five minutes, the first three students arrived together. They were Ravenclaws, of course. Theodorik spoke across the room to the physically questioning pupils, “good day, and welcome to Ancient Runes. Take a seat; we shouldn’t be much longer.” The Ravenclaw students expectably took seats at the front of the classroom. In the following ten minutes, each seat had been filled. It was a small class, but Theodorik had not expected a crowd. Ancient Runes was not exactly a class for those beneath the intellectual line; the class was filled with Ravenclaws. Though, there was some Hufflepuffs, 2 Gryffindors, and 1 Slytherin.
With a full classroom, Theodorik began the class; “Welcome to Ancient Runes. I am Professor Harding. As you all know, this class is based from the study of ancient runes. However, during the course of this year, we will explore the realm of theoretical magic through the use of runes. Runes were the first form of human embodiment of magic. Before there were wands, before other magical objects, humans put the magical abilities into writing. Of the many scripts and languages used to embody magic, only one remains; runes. Since these symbols were carved in stone, they have lived to this day and their magic has continued to this day. Any questions?” There was one student with her hand in the air, Theodorik looked at her, “what is your name, miss?” The girl put her hand down, “Diedera Stockbridge, professor. You said runes are the only script that remains, what about Egyptian hieroglyphs? And Latin inscribed on marble in Rome?”
Theodorik had expected this question, “there are other scripts. However, all scripts that are carved into stone are referred to as runes. ((Not true in muggle world, but true in magic world.)) Runes have appeared all over the world; in Scandinavia, Europe, Rome, Africa, Egypt, China, India, and all other places. But, the vast majority of magical scripts have been lost to nature.” Theodorik was enjoying himself now. He continued the class, finally assigning homework and letting the class out early to work on it.
